John Baker making a case in AAA to be called up by the Florida Marlins

Blogged under Front Page, The Minors, Playing Well, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 12 May 2007 at 9:02 pm

26 year old lefty swinging John Baker might soon replace Matt Treanor as the Marlins backup catcher.  In 21 games in AAA this season, Baker is 19 of 55 (.345 avg, 1.048 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 2 homers and 11 RBIs.  With Treanor stinking it up for the Marlins, it makes perfect sense to replace him with Baker.

John Baker deserves a shot on the big club. Throughout his career (High School - Minors) he has risen to the opportunity to be productive beyond expectations. We hated to see him leave the Oakland system since he was a home grown prospect.

I think he will get a chance before the season is over. Because Matt Treanor is pretty worthless.

This is a long time coming. Watching Treanor playing a AA game makes me ill. Hopefully John Baker will be bumped up, as it is well deserved. He’s worked hard to show them he’s ready and has proven it. If the Marlin’s don’t play it right, leaving him in the shadows in their AAA team in New Mexico, they are going to lose him when he’s a free agent. John will make it to the Major’s… with the Marlin’s, if they choose wisely, or with another Major’s team in the not to distant future, if the Marlin’s are foolish.
