The Marlins thought that Mike Rabelo could of at least shared time with Matt Treanor this season after they acquired him in the big trade over the winter with the Tigers but he has failed. Because of that he has been dispatched to AAA ball while the Marlins have recalled Paul Hoover to replace him on the roster. Rabelo played in 34 games for the Marlins this season and he was 22 for 109 (.202 avg, .550 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 3 homers and 10 RBIs. Paul Hoover has been around quite a while and he should be able to at least handle the job on defense. Hoover has played in 3 games for the Marlins this year and he is 3 for 10 (.300 avg) with 1 run scored. Maybe Rabelo will make it back at some point this season for the Marlins but not likely before September unless Hoover plays poorly or Matt Treanor gets injured. He has been a huge disappointment for the Marlins.

The Marlins have placed righty Burke Badenhop on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Badenhop has pitched in 13 games (8 starts) for the Marlins this season and he is 2-3 with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. The Marlins have recalled outfielder Jai Miller to replace Badenhop on the roster. The 23-year old righty swinging Miller has played in 62 games in AAA ball this season and he is 59 for 241 (.245 avg, .765 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 11 homers, 26 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

Dallas McPherson is swinging a big stick in AAA and he will likely be recalled from the minors if anything happens to either Mike Jacobs or Jorge Cantu. The 27-year old lefty swinging McPherson has played in 62 games in AAA ball this season and he is 63 for 211 (.299 avg, 1.050 OPS) with 45 runs scored, 20 homers, 44 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. But, he still has the whiffing problem as he has struck out 79 times this season against AAA pitchers. McPherson was once considered a top prospect in the Angels’ system but injuries have held him down, but, he might be able to help the Marlins down the road now that he’s healthy.

Everyone always knew that Cantu could hit but he’s been really hot for the Marlins this season. Cantu has played in 63 games this season for the Marlins and he is 74 for 250 (.296 avg, .878 OPS) with 41 runs scored, 14 homers and 39 RBIs. But, if you want Cantu’s good hitting you have to take his iron glove. Cantu has already made 14 errors this season for the Marlins. In his defense though he’s never been a regular at 3B in the majors. Still, the Marlins will put up with his fielding as long as he keeps hitting like he is right now.

The Marlins have decided that they have seen enough of Jacque Jones so they have designated him for assignment and recalled infielder Robert Andino from AAA. Jones played in 18 games for the Marlins and he was 4 for 37 (.108 avg, .335 OPS) with 5 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Jones has played in 42 games this season with the Tigers & Marlins and he is 17 for 116 (.147 avg) with 15 runs scored, 1 homer and 7 RBIs. It remains to be seen if another team will give Jones a shot to turn around his nightmare season. Robert Andino has played in 21 games for the Marlins this season and he is 4 for 22 (.182 avg, .763 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 2 homers and 3 RBIs. He has also whiffed an amazing 14 times this season.
