Alfredo Amezaga has been worthless for the Florida Marlins so far

33-year old switch-hitting IF/OF Alfredo Amezaga has been awful since the Marlins acquired him in a deal with the Rockies. Amezaga has played in 18 games for the Marlins so far this year and he is 6 for 43 (.140 avg, .352 OPS) with 1 run scored, 0 homers and 2 RBIs. He has now played in 38 games overall this year for the Rockies & Marlins and he is 14 for 76 (.184 avg, .447 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers and 4 RBIs. The Marlins should nail Amezaga’s butt to the bench after rosters expand tomorrow.

UPDATE: (9/6/2011) - The Marlins have designated Alfredo Amezaga for assignment. He played in 20 games for the Marlins this year and he was 6 for 44 (.136 avg, .345 OPS) with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. Amezaga played in 437 games in his five years with the Marlins and he was 295 for 1,158 (.255 avg, .654 OPS) with 136 runs scored, 8 homers, 88 RBIs and 42 stolen bases. This probably ends Amezaga’s career with the Marlins. They won’t miss him.

UPDATE II: (9/8/2011) - The Marlins have released Alfredo Amezaga.

Gaby Sanchez has really struggled so far in August for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under General, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Wednesday 31 August 2011 at 3:14 pm

27-year old righty swinging 1B Gaby Sanchez has been ice cold with a bat in his hands so far in August. Sanchez has played in 26 games so far in August and he is 13 for 82 (.159 avg, .454 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer, 7 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 131 games overall this year and he is 128 for 481 (.266 avg, .773 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 17 homers, 66 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. The Marlins really need Sanchez to pick up the pace with the bat the rest of the year, or they are going to have a hard time scoring runs.

Clay Hensley has been pathetic for the Florida Marlins in August

Blogged under General, Front Page, Pitching BP, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 27 August 2011 at 10:58 am

31-year old righty starting pitcher Clay Hensley has been awful for the Marlins so far in August. Hensley has started 5 games in August and he is 0-2 with a 9.87 ERA and a 2.02 WHIP. He has given up 26 hits in 17 1/3 innings in August while also walking 9 batters! The Marlins need to put him back in the bullpen where he only has to face batters one time, because his stuff just isn’t good enough to start. Hensley has pitched in 28 games (8 starts) overall this year and he is 2-5 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.

The Florida Marlins recall LF Logan Morrison

Blogged under General, Front Page, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Wednesday 24 August 2011 at 3:13 pm

The Florida Marlins have recalled 24-year old starting LF Logan Morrison from AAA. He played in 6 games in AAA-ball for the Marlins after his demotion and he was 4 for 24 (.167 avg, .597 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs. Hopefully he learned his lesson about blasting Marlins’ management on twitter and through the media. Morrison played in 95 games earlier this year for the Marlins and he was 90 for 362 (.249 avg, .791 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 17 homers, 60 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. To make room on the roster for Morrison, the Marlins designated 33-year old lefty swinging outfielder DeWayne Wise. Wise played in 49 games for the Marlins this year and he was 16 for 67 (.239 avg, .546 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers, 5 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. The Marlins won’t miss Wise at all moving forward.

UPDATE: (8/26/2011) - The Marlins have lost DeWayne Wise on waivers to the Blue Jays.

Mike Cameron has not looked too good for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under General, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 22 August 2011 at 1:24 pm

38-year old righty swinging CF Mike Cameron looks like he’s running on fumes. Cameron has played in 32 games for the Marlins this year and he is 21 for 100 (.210 avg, .677 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 4 homers, 11 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He has now played in 65 games overall this year for the Red Sox & Marlins and he is 35 for 194 (.180 avg, .581 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 7 homers, 20 RBIs and 1 stolen base. His playing time will likely get cut soon especially if Chris Coghlan hits well on his rehab assignment.
