Alfredo Amezaga has been worthless for the Florida Marlins so far

33-year old switch-hitting IF/OF Alfredo Amezaga has been awful since the Marlins acquired him in a deal with the Rockies. Amezaga has played in 18 games for the Marlins so far this year and he is 6 for 43 (.140 avg, .352 OPS) with 1 run scored, 0 homers and 2 RBIs. He has now played in 38 games overall this year for the Rockies & Marlins and he is 14 for 76 (.184 avg, .447 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers and 4 RBIs. The Marlins should nail Amezaga’s butt to the bench after rosters expand tomorrow.

UPDATE: (9/6/2011) - The Marlins have designated Alfredo Amezaga for assignment. He played in 20 games for the Marlins this year and he was 6 for 44 (.136 avg, .345 OPS) with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. Amezaga played in 437 games in his five years with the Marlins and he was 295 for 1,158 (.255 avg, .654 OPS) with 136 runs scored, 8 homers, 88 RBIs and 42 stolen bases. This probably ends Amezaga’s career with the Marlins. They won’t miss him.

UPDATE II: (9/8/2011) - The Marlins have released Alfredo Amezaga.

Gaby Sanchez has really struggled so far in August for the Florida Marlins

27-year old righty swinging 1B Gaby Sanchez has been ice cold with a bat in his hands so far in August. Sanchez has played in 26 games so far in August and he is 13 for 82 (.159 avg, .454 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer, 7 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 131 games overall this year and he is 128 for 481 (.266 avg, .773 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 17 homers, 66 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. The Marlins really need Sanchez to pick up the pace with the bat the rest of the year, or they are going to have a hard time scoring runs.

Mike Cameron has not looked too good for the Florida Marlins

38-year old righty swinging CF Mike Cameron looks like he’s running on fumes. Cameron has played in 32 games for the Marlins this year and he is 21 for 100 (.210 avg, .677 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 4 homers, 11 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He has now played in 65 games overall this year for the Red Sox & Marlins and he is 35 for 194 (.180 avg, .581 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 7 homers, 20 RBIs and 1 stolen base. His playing time will likely get cut soon especially if Chris Coghlan hits well on his rehab assignment.

John Buck just isn’t hitting the ball for the Florida Marlins

Blogged under General, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Friday 29 July 2011 at 9:51 am

In 2010, 31-year old righty swinging catcher John Buck played in 118 games for the Blue Jays and he was 115 for 409 (.281 avg, .803 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 20 homers and 66 RBIs. The Marlins then gave him a huge contract over the winter, based on last year’s production. Buck has played in 93 games for the Marlins so far this year and he is 72 for 318 (.226 avg, .684 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 11 homers and 38 RBIs. You have to think that the Marlins didn’t scout Buck until last season to give him the kind of contract they did. In his six years in Kansas City, Buck played in 584 games in which he was 450 for 1,913 (.235 avg, .705 OPS) with 218 runs scored, 70 homers, 259 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Buck will have two more years with the Marlins to prove that his signing wasn’t the waste of money it looks like right now.

Omar Infante hasn’t been producing much for the Florida Marlins this year

Blogged under General, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Thursday 7 July 2011 at 2:48 pm

29-year old righty swinging Omar Infante had a career year in 2010 and the Marlins paid full price for him, getting him back as part of the deal for Dan Uggla. Infante made the All-Star team with the Braves in 2010. He played in 134 games for the Braves last year and he was 151 for 471 (.321 avg, .775 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 8 homers, 47 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Until this season, Infante had only played in over 100 games three times in his first 9 years, and now you’re seeing why. Pitchers have a better gameplan usually for guys in the lineup all of the time and they have done well against Infante. He has played in 87 games for the Marlins so far this year and he is 86 for 334 (.257 avg, .618 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 1 homer, 25 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Look for the Marlins to consider dealing him later this month.
