The Marlins have recalled 30-year old righty swinging IF/OF Hector Luna. Luna has played in 97 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 104 of 354 (.294 avg, .845 OPS) with 55 runs scored, 16 homers, 71 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Luna last played in the majors in 2008 with the Blue Jays. He has played in 284 games in his five years in the majors and he is 190 of 703 (.270 avg, .713 OPS) with 97 runs scored, 11 homers, 82 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. He deserved to get called up by the Marlins earlier this season so look for him to try to make up for lost time.

The Florida Marlins will be without 25-year old lefty swinging starting LF Chris Coghlan for the next six to eight weeks as he tore his meniscus in his left knee. He hurt himself trying to nail Wes Helms with a pie in the face after a walkoff victory. What a dumb way to hurt yourself and your team. Coghlan has played in 91 games for the Marlins this year and he is 96 of 358 (.268 avg, .718 OPS) with 60 runs scored, 5 homers, 28 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. The Marlins have recalled 22-year old lefty swinging outfielder Logan Morrison to replace Coghlan as the starting LF. Morrison was the Marlins’ #2 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Marlins’ fans have been clamoring for his recall and now we will get to see what he can do. Morrison has played in 73 games in A+AAA-ball this season and he is 81 of 259 (.313 avg, .925 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 6 homers and 47 RBIs. Morrison has now played in 462 games in his five years in the minors and he is 483 of 1,652 (.292 avg, .849 OPS) with 245 runs scored, 53 homers, 274 RBIs and 22 stolen bases.

30-year old righty swinging 2B/3B Hector Luna should be the next infielder the Marlins call up. He has played in 85 games in AAA-ball so far this season and he is 92 of 313 (.294 avg, .840 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 14 homers, 60 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Luna has the versatility to help the Marlins as he can play the outfield as well as 2B and 3B. He also has had some success in the majors as a bench player which is where the Marlins need help.

20-year old righty swinging 3B Matt Dominguez is off to a slow start in AA for the Marlins. He was the Marlins’ #4 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Dominguez has played in 78 games in AA-ball so far this season and he is 69 of 288 (.240 avg, .725 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 9 homers and 41 RBIs. He has now played in 315 games in his four years in the minors and he is 298 of 1,168 (.255 avg, .748 OPS) with 152 runs scored, 41 homers and 179 RBIs. Dominguez is still the Marlins’ 3B of the future and he’s only 20 years old so he has a lot of time to turn things around.

Recently signed 29-year old righty starter/reliever Tom Mastny has started off well in AAA for the Marlins. Mastny has started 3 games in AAA-ball so far this season for the Marlins and he is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He last pitched in the majors in 2008 for the Cleveland Indians. Mastny has pitched in 80 games (1 start) in his major league career and he is 9-5 with a 6.13 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP.
