Anibal Sanchez has been really solid for the Florida Marlins this year

27-year old righty starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez has really stepped up so far this year for the Marlins. He has started 23 games for the Fish so far this year and he is 6-5 with a 3.73 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He has whiffed 150 batters while only walking 42 of them in his first 144 2/3 innings so far this year as he has been dominating at times. He has now pitched in 105 games (104 starts) in his first six years with the Marlins and he is 37-34 with a 3.74 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Sanchez has really developed into a nice starting pitcher for the Marlins since coming over in the big Josh Beckett trade with the Red Sox six years ago.

35-year old lefty reliever Randy Choate has really been effective so far this year for the Marlins. He has pitched in 45 games (0 starts) for the Marlins so far this year and he is 0-1 with a 1.33 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. He has been used almost exclusively against lefty batters as he has only pitched 20 1/3 innings so far this year. He has only allowed 9 hits this year while whiffing 26 batters as he has been dominating in his role in the Marlins’ bullpen so far this year. Rumors abound that teams are calling the Marlins about Choate, but he’s signed for 2012 at $1.25 million bucks, so a team is going to have to overwhelm the Marlins if they want to trade for him.

25-year old righty reliever Steven Chisek came into this season as the Marlins’ #19 prospect according to Baseball America. Chisek has pitched in 20 games (0 starts) for the Marlins so far this year and he is 1-1 with 1 save, a 2.13 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. He has only given up 21 hits while walking 6 batters in his first 25 1/3 innings this year as he has been very aggressive in the strikezone. He also has whiffed 27 batters for the Fish as he was good stuff. Chisek could be moving up in the Marlins’ bullpen if they deal a reliever or two by the trade deadline.

27-year old righty starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez has started 4 games so far in June and he is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. He has whiffed 27 batters while only walking 5 of them in 25 2/3 innings this month. Sanchez has now started 15 games for the Marlins so far this year and he is 6-1 with a 2.90 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Sanchez has only given up 84 hits in 99 1/3 innings for the Marlins so far this year and he has 101 whiffs. Sanchez is finally healthy and he is turning into the pitcher the Marlins thought he would be when they acquired him along with SS Hanley Ramirez from the Red Sox for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell.

27-year old righty starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez is finally turning into the pitcher the Marlins thought he would be when they acquired him along with Hanley Ramirez from the Red Sox in the Josh Beckett/Mike Lowell deal a few years back. Sanchez started 6 games in May and he was 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. He only gave up 28 hits and 12 walks while whiffing 44 batters last month in 43 1/3 innings which shows just how nasty he was. Sanchez has now pitched in 11 games (all starts) for the Marlins this year and he is 5-1 with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. Sanchez has really stepped up since Josh Johnson went onto the D.L., as he has taken over as the Marlins’ #1 starter for now.
